Writing a CV illustration

Keep it brief and focused

Limit your CV to one or two pages. Highlight the most relevant education, experience and achievements related to the role.

Emphasise your strengths

Start with your education, key skills or most recent experience – whichever is most impressive and relevant.

Demonstrate real-world experience

Include any volunteering, part-time work, leadership roles in school or university groups or community service. This matters.

Use action-oriented language

Incorporate clear, powerful verbs like developed, managed, led, created, solved or assisted to illustrate your contributions.

Tailor your CV for each role

Customise your CV for the specific opportunity. Highlight the skills and experiences that fit the job or programme best.

Know who we are

Before the interview, take some time to learn about Implats. Understand our values, what we do, and how the role you are applying for fits into our purpose, vision and values.

Prepare your story

Be ready to talk about your studies, experience and what motivates you. Think about how your skills and goals align with the opportunity at hand.

Common questions to expect

  • Tell us about yourself
  • Why do you want to join Implats?
  • What are your strengths (and how do they show)?
  • Describe a time you solved a problem or worked in a team.

Use real examples

Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers. Show what you did, how you did it, and what changed because of your actions.

Plan your logistics

Know the time, date and format of your interview – whether it is online or in-person. Test your internet and tech beforehand if it is virtual. Arrive early if it is in-person.

Be yourself and take a breath

We want to get to know the real you. Be honest, professional and do not be afraid to share your passion. Confidence is not about being loud – it is about showing up prepared and curious.

Feeling nervous is completely normal. Take a deep breath, stay focused and remember – you have already taken the first step by applying.

Working at Implats FAQs

Implats’ purpose is to create a better future. The culture is underpinned by three core values — respect, care and deliver — which shape how people lead, collaborate and make decisions every day.

Implats offers diverse career paths across mining, processing and corporate functions, supported by a leadership employee value proposition based on care and growth.

Implats is a fully integrated Platinum Group Metal (PGM) producer with mining and processing operations in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Canada, employing more than 63 000 people across the Group.

The Employment Value Proposition (EVP) outlines a range of benefits and development opportunities, including coaching-led leadership, skills growth and pathways across technical and professional roles, with specific initiatives to support women where underrepresented.

Career paths describe clear progression and exposure across functions like stoping, development, ventilation, geology and finance, with medical fitness and (for some roles) psychometric assessments as part of suitability.

Safety and health are non-negotiable. Group codes and governance embed safe work, human rights, fair employment and zero tolerance for discrimination, with oversight from board committees focused on ethics and risk.

PGMs enable cleaner technologies in industry and transport. Implats is advancing decarbonisation through initiatives like renewable energy procurement and solar projects at operations.

Young talent FAQs

Implats supports young people through three structured pathways: the graduate programme, the learnership programme and the bursary programme. Each provides different forms of training, education support and career development.

The graduate programme is a launchpad for future leaders in mining and engineering. It offers structured, discipline-specific training, real-world exposure, mentorship and leadership development. Graduates gain hands-on experience while building their skills within operating environments. Graduate internship opportunities are offered in: mining, metallurgy, chemical, mechanical must comply with DMPR requirements electrical (heavy current, must comply with DMPR requirements), chemistry to honours level and geology to honours level. The programme prioritises graduates from local communities, supporting them with financial education, life skills and career path planning to ensure long-term success.

The learnership programme provides a pathway into the world of mining. It combines classroom learning with practical, on-the-job experience in core disciplines like engineering, metallurgy and underground operations. Learners must have an N2 with four subjects relevant to a trade. Additional requirements may apply depending on the discipline. Learnership opportunities are available in the following disciplines: electrician, boilermaker, fitter, diesel mechanic, instrument mechanician and rigger ropesman. Some are open internally, while external opportunities are communicated through community structures. Learnerships aim to develop critical technical and mining skills, provide recognised artisan and non-artisan qualifications and prepare learners for long-term careers within the mining industry.

Implats bursaries cover registration and tuition fees, residence fees and a cash allowance. Bursary recipients must complete vacation work each year and work for Implats after graduation for the duration equal to the funding received. Bursaries are offered in: engineering, mining, metallurgy, electrical (heavy current), chemistry to honours level, geology to honours level, accounting to honours level, survey and human resources (BCom to honours level).
