Kefentse Maseko's passion for finance and auditing stems from the profession's ability to create tangible value. While completing her postgraduate studies in internal auditing, she discovered how robust assurance can sharpen governance and illuminate risks. A variety of assignments – from operations to information technology – keeps her curiosity alight and affirms her decision to pursue a career that demands rigour and continuous learning.
After joining one of the Implats Group's graduate development programmes, Kefentse was immersed in real work. Delivering audit findings to management challenged her to step beyond her comfort zone, while the team's supportive response to inevitable early missteps fostered a culture of reflection and improvement. Working alongside colleagues with diverse backgrounds honed her communication skills, taught her to navigate differing work styles and helped her remain composed under pressure.
Resilience and adaptability have become cornerstones of her professional growth. Tight deadlines and high expectations tested and strengthened her ability to think clearly and collaborate effectively. Guided by mentors within Group Internal Audit, she learned to counter self-doubt and imposter syndrome, finding her voice as both a young professional and a mother balancing multiple responsibilities. She credits this inclusive support system with accelerating her development and ensuring that every trainee feels they belong.
What rewards her most is the opportunity to influence positive change. Internal Audit's independent perspective allows her to uphold integrity and accountability and contribute to decisions that drive continuous improvement. The relationships she builds across functions give her work added depth and purpose, reinforcing her commitment to be a technical specialist as well as a trusted adviser.
Looking ahead, Kefentse aims to qualify as a certified internal auditor and to assume a leadership role in which she can deliver high-impact projects while mentoring the next generation of trainees.
